Re: Perception intends to bridge the gap and explore the boundaries between sight and sound. It is a system to view sounds and to hear images. The system has two main functions. First, it analyzes audio input and encodes that data into the pixels of a digital image, saved as color values. The resultant image becomes like a cassette tape or CD; it becomes a storage medium for audio information. Second, the system offers a method to playback images by shifting the color data stored within the pixels back into audio. Thus, the image can be perceived sonically as well as visually. In an environment saturated with media we quickly become disenchanted with audio and visual stimuli. Content gives way to noise. In order to regain fascination with our media we need to discover a new relationship between the senses of sight and sound, a new way to perceive.
